The "Set A" Verb 'try it, attempting it'

Root verb -anehl(o)di-

Note: For your awareness, this verb appears with various other spellings for the "hl-" syllable, including "Ꮯ" - [tl(i)] (ᎠᏁᏟᏗᎭ CED) and W - [l(a)] ᎠᏁᎳᏗᎭ in some documents from the Western Carolina University Department of Cherokee Studies. You may also encounter it written with "Ꮅ" [li].
This page uses the "Ꮆ" syllable because this is the spelling used in the Cherokee New Testament as well as the "Cherokee Stories" booklet by Spade & Walker and it is used in the Cherokee versions of some reports in the (modern) Cherokee Phoenix newspaper.
The reason for these discrepancies is that the vowel for this syllable in the verb is silent which is indicated here by putting the vowel in parentheses. The older spelling may indicate that this syllable was originally pronounced with the vowel /o/.
